Two things to consider:
1. Less is more
2. Don't spread yourself too thin
Less is actually more in two ways:
1. The less
you have to worry about, the more freedom you have to focus on what you really want to accomplish.
In
other words, declutter your life! Take inventory of what is in
your life, and then start the decluttering process!
A goal I always work at is having a cleaner home. So I need to declutter
the clutter! Do I really need 35 blouses in my closet, and 25 skirts? Do I really need to keep 3 years worth of
Family Circle magazines on my bookshelf? Do I need 47 cups and glasses for a family of 5? Do I really need 150
knick knacks in my livingroom? Or 17 bottles of shampoo in the shower?
Getting rid of all of the excess helps me to focus on the goal.
Is
your goal to change your additude about your job? Then you will need to "declutter" some of your negative
acquaintances at work that you eat lunch with. Stay away from the office gossip about the boss.
Is
your goal to put $100 into your saving account every two weeks? Then you will need to get rid of the store catalogs
you have on your coffee table, and Sunday's sale ad inserts for all of your favorite department stores. Pitch credit
card offers as soon as you come in the door from the mailbox. Then, of course, you will need to take other actions,
but some of the distractions will be out of the way.
Simplify!
2. The fewer things you have on your agenda, the more you can apply yourself
to your goals. It's much better to apply your whole self to one goal, then to apply a 10th of yourself to 10 goals.
My
husband is a falconer, but does not have a bird at this time. He planned to get one this past fall, but then got interested
in working out at the gym. Because he knew that his bird would take quite a bit of time and care, and because he was
more interested at the time in working out, he decided to hold off on getting a bird. If he had decided to do
both, along with having time for his family, and tending to the necessary things in life(work), some area would have been
neglected because he doesn't have time for everything.
An example I once heard was making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Spreading
the peanut butter too thin doesn't make for a very good sandwich! That basic idea applies to our lives as well.
Think
of ways you can simplify your life, and it really will open up space for you to accomplish your goals.
